About Us
Helping the people of Dundee for nearly 30 years
Dundee Law Centre has been assisting the people of Dundee with their legal issues for nearly 30 years.
Our overall objective is to combat poverty and homelessness by providing free, accessible, confidential, quality advice and representation to assist clients to pursue their legal rights, within a framework of equality, education, respect and opportunity.
Our Guiding Values
Here are the values and principles that guide us and ensure we never lose sight of what we are trying to achieve:
Our History
The Law Centre started on 1st September 1994. It was founded by Dundee Legal Advice Association, itself a charitable organisation with close links to Dundee University. The Project which began in September 1994 had a running-in period until 31st December of that year.
The Association’s aims were to provide Legal Advice to needy citizens of Dundee. A successful application was made for funding and the Law Centre was created. The Project was set up to provide legal advice, assistance, and support to individual clients and to voluntary organisations, groups, and agencies residing in or operating in what were then the Community Regeneration Areas on an outreach basis.
Dundee North Law Centre was managed by Dundee Legal Advice Association for the period from 1st April 1994 to 16th April 2001. A company limited by guarantee was formed with effect from that date and subsequently acquired Charitable Status.
The Law Centre was based at 40 Perth Road from its inception up until 5th February, 2001 when the Project moved to Happyhillock Resource Base, 65 Happyhillock Road, Dundee DD4 8LS. However, the premises there, though welcoming, were, unfortunately, too small for the Project and from 9th March, 2002 the Project had been based at Top Floor, 20 Grampian Gardens, Fintry, Dundee DD4 9QZ.
Again the Law Centre outgrew these premises and moved to 163 Albert Street, Dundee in 2010 where they remain today.
